10 Amazing Canadian Inventions

The list of Canadian inventions is very long, but below we have simplified it a bit with some of the more recognized inventions and contributions that Canada has made to the world. Truly amazing inventions and contributions that changed the world (this list will be expanded over time, so don’t worry).

One of the most popular and beloved sports around the world was invented by a Canadian by the name of Dr. James Naismith. It is safe to say that there would be no NBA (National Basketball Association) without the professor. The NBA hall of fame is named after him.

A true Canadian delight that has spread in popularity around the world. Consisting of French fries and cheese curds topped with brown gravy, Poutine was created in the province of Quebec and is one of the most consumed dishes in Canada. Today Poutine has grown into various other variations of the recipe such as; Pulled Pork Poutine, among others. I don’t know about you, but I love, love Poutine!

Ok… Canadians can’t take full credit for the creation of Superman, but we can take half the credit him. Superman was co-created by a Canadian Joe Shuster, he was born in Toronto. Together with his friend Jerry Siegel, they came up with the concept back in 1933 as high schoolers.

Java Programming Language
Java is one of the most popular programming languages ever created. It was created by Canadian computer scientist James Gosling. Java is the language of choice for the smartphone Android Operating System. It also powers some of the biggest websites and systems around the world.

The Hawaiian Pizza
A lot of people don’t know this… but it is true; among all of Canada’s achievements, the Hawaiian pizza is one of them. Personally, I don’t really like it, but looks like Australians absolutely love it. It is the most popular pizza there.

Alkaline battery
Invented by Canadian chemical engineer Lewis Urry, it is one of the most used batteries in the world. In fact, my wireless computer mouse is powered by an Alkaline battery.

This one is not surprising. As everyone knows, Canada has very cold and snowy winters, so we had to invent something to help us along. It was invented by Arthur Sicard, a Canadian inventor.

It is one of the oldest sport in the world, hundreds of years old in fact. It originated on the land that is now present-day Canada, so Canadians can take full credit for it. It is considered Canada’s “national sport”. Although not as international as basketball, it is very popular across North America.

Created by Canadian iconic company Research In Motion (now known as BlackBerry Limited)… before the fall from grace… the BlackBerry was one of the most popular phones in the world. Everybody loved their BlackBerry, especially among professionals, executives and business people. Today, the company is still alive and kicking, but has a much more diversified business where the phone is not their primary business.

A professional painters dream. Imagine if such an invention did not exist today? It would be chaos! Anyway, the painter roller was invented by Canadian Norman Breaky.
