The Hatley Castle is a sight to behold, especially in the summer. It was purchased by the government of Canada for under $100,000 back in the 1930’s from the Dunsmuir family. It was used as XMEN school for the gifted in the movies. It is one of the most beautiful castles in the world.
Casa Loma Castle – Toronto, Ontario
This castle is the most popular castle in Toronto. It has been the site of many movies and tv shows. Constructed started in 1911 and completed in 1914. It used to belong to Sir Henry Pellatt, a Canadian soldier and financier. It is now owned by the city of Toronto. Must visit if you are in Toronto.
Craigdarroch Castle – Victoria, British Columbia
Step back in time… all the way back in the 1890s and get an insight on how the rich lived back then. It was built for the wealth Dunsmuir family. Welcome to Craigdarroch Castle, a National Historic Site of Canada. This magnificent castle is one of Victoria’s pride and joy which has seen royalty from almost every corner of the globe grace its grounds with their presence. Today this castle serves the public as a Museum. It is definitely a must see when you visit Victoria. It gets an estimated 150,000 visitors per year.

We love neoclassical style mansions, so the Dundurn Castle in Hamilton is one of our favourite castles to visit in Canada. It was purchased by the city of Hamilton for about $50,000 from its previous owners. It has welcomed and entertained kings, queens, presidents and prime ministers such as Sir John A. Macdonald and many others. Built in the 1830’s, it is a National Historic Site of Canada – in other words, a national treasure.
