Forillon National Park protects cliffs, headlands, beaches, coves, and forested highlands at the outer tip of the Gaspé Peninsula, where the Appalachians meet the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Famous for seabird colonies, whale watching, and sweeping coastal scenery, the park also preserves historic fishing settlements and lighthouses that tell the story of Gaspé’s maritime heritage.

Overview
Forillon marks the dramatic meeting of mountains and sea. High limestone and sandstone cliffs plunge into deep water frequented by whales; inland, mixed Acadian–boreal forests cover rounded hills and river valleys. The park’s cultural places—such as Grande-Grave and Anse-Blanchette—interpret cod fishing, merchant trading, and everyday life along the Gaspé coast.
Landscapes and ecosystems
- Cliffs, headlands, and coves: Iconic viewpoints at Cap-Bon-Ami and Cap Gaspé overlook seabird nesting ledges and the open gulf.
 - Penouille peninsula: A low sandspit and salt marsh with boardwalks, shallow lagoons, and beach access on Gaspé Bay.
 - Forests & highlands: Spruce–fir and mixed hardwoods cloak ridges leading to the Mont-Saint-Alban lookout tower.
 - Rivers & shorelines: Pebble/sand beaches, estuaries, and coastal streams provide habitat for salmon, shorebirds, and coastal plants.

Wildlife highlights include minke, fin, and humpback whales offshore (in season), grey and harbour seals, porcupine, red fox, black bear, moose, and seabirds such as kittiwakes, murres, and cormorants.
Things to do
- Hiking & viewpoints: Signature trails include Les Graves to the Cap Gaspé lighthouse (Land’s End), Mont-Saint-Alban (tower panoramic views), Cap-Bon-Ami lookouts, and short loops to waterfalls and coves.
 - Whale & seabird watching: Scan from Cap-Bon-Ami, Land’s End, and headland lookouts; guided boat tours operate from nearby harbours in season.
 - Beaches & Penouille: Family-friendly boardwalks, cycling paths, and shallow-water beaches on the Penouille sandspit (Gaspé Bay).
 - Cycling & paddling: Designated multi-use paths at Penouille; sea kayaking and SUP on calm days (experience and weather judgment required).
 - Camping & roofed stays: Frontcountry campgrounds at Des-Rosiers, Petit-Gaspé, and Cap-Bon-Ami (varied services and oTENTik units). Backcountry sites available by permit on select routes.
 - Heritage sites & programs: Historic buildings at Grande-Grave/Anse-Blanchette, interpretive walks, evening programs, and seasonal activities.

Access and visitor services
The park is reached from Route 132 east of the town of Gaspé. Main sectors include North (Cap-Bon-Ami/Des-Rosiers), South (Grande-Grave/Petit-Gaspé), and Penouille (on Gaspé Bay). Visitor centres offer trip planning, exhibits, and permits. Summer and early fall are peak seasons—reserve campgrounds and popular activities early.
Safety and low-impact travel
- Cliffs & wind: Stay behind barriers at lookouts; footing can be slippery, and gusts are common.
 - Cold water & swell: Conditions change quickly; check marine forecasts before coastal hikes or paddling.
 - Wildlife: Black bears and moose are present—give space, keep food secured, and follow all advisories.
 - Fog, sun, and insects: Carry layers, water, sun protection; expect fog and blackflies/mosquitoes at times.
 - Follow fire bans, trail closures, seabird-nesting restrictions, and Leave No Trace practices.
