The team plays in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). Since being founded in Atlanta in 1999, the franchise has lost their first five seasons.

  • 1. Winnipeg was among the founding members of the World Hockey Association (WHA) on December 27, 1971. The vast majority of the WHA's clubs went bankrupt by 1979. April 28, 1996 was the last regular season game for the original Winnipeg Jets.
  • 2. Among all the Canadian NHL franchises, the Winnipeg Jets are the second newest franchise (after the Las Vegas Knights), founded in 1999 - 2011 (as the Atlanta Trashers, and from 2011 until now as the Winnipeg Jets). The Ottawa Senators are the second newest, established in 1992.

Unfortunately, Dale passed away recently due to stomach cancer on August 18, 2020 at the age of 57.
